Miami Heat…A Team On Fire

Since 1988, the Miami Heat have been winning games and delighting fans. Although their first season was not very successful, they improved dramatically and since then have been a team to watch.

With 13 playoff appearances out of their 21 years, the team has brought home seven division titles, one conference title, and one championship. They are the most successful of the four expansion teams to join the league between 1988 and 1989.

The official home of the Miami Heat was the Miami Arena from 1988-1999. Since then, they have been located in the newer American Airlines Arena. Sometimes referred to as the “Triple A” or “A Cubed,” the 213 million dollar arena has seating for more than 19,000 people.

The older, color-changing shot clocks were recently replaced by the Daktronics see-through clocks which are quite popular within the league now, increasing the view of fans who are sitting behind the clocks. The Arena also carries the LEED certification for existing buildings from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Out in the community, the Miami Heat aren’t cooling down at all. They are passionately involved in creating a better life for the less fortunate in the Miami-Dade area. Helping to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and brighten the lives of area children, they also take part in programs designed to promote education and fitness. The Heat foundation has many functions, including funding after school tutoring programs, mentoring programs, and providing scholarships to the area’s outstanding youth.

From the Jr. Jams to the Heat Golden Oldies, games in Miami are sure to be a hit. The Heat Dancers are a group of beautiful women who perform spectacular routines at the games. The Jr. Jams also dance but are composed of children ages six to 11. The Golden Oldies are a group of seniors who appear at one game a month.

There are also the acrobatic and dunk teams, and what basketball game would be complete without the mascot? Burnie is the official Mascot of the Miami Heat and like many of the other performance teams makes area appearances and can be hired to appear at your own area function.

The Fireball Express is another fan favorite. A 1952 fire truck, it has been redesigned to include water cannons, basketball hoops, and other features, allowing fans of all ages to enjoy shooting hoops and having fun being active.

Definitely a centerpiece of life in their community, the Miami Heat are well loved and for good reason. They provide great entertainment, support for the community, and give the citizens in the area something to be proud of.
